CROSS DYE - RED, 2010
Handwoven, hand-dyed polyester and wool textile, 24,5” x 14”
Part of the Cross Dye Series:
Inspired by the layering of light and color against the surface and structure of architecture, this series was created through individually cross dyeing multiple fibers on white woven patterns. First, the weavings were created in white-on-white fiber in intricate woven patterns, some with subtle color striping. The majority of the color was created off-loom through various dye processes. Each individual fiber was dyed independently, creating multilayered pattern and color. Though carefully executed, the dyeing process became an intuitive response to the woven patterns themselves and was rarely planned from the start.
